Allie Pottinger – Featured artist June 2015

Allie Pottinger is our featured artist for June 2015 and her new range of cards has been selling fast!  She graduated in graphic design in 1987, specialising in illustration and subsequently moved to London, renting a small studio in Covent Garden.  It was a great time but, ultimately, home and family were in Cheshire, and Allie found more inspiration in the countryside than the bustle of the city.  A spell with a design agency in Chester followed, then marriage to Neil and two gorgeous children. Life is hectic but art remains a huge part of Allie’s life, both in the form of her own paintings, commissions and teaching others. Allie’s exhibitions include Young Illustrator of the Year (Smiths Gallery, Covent Garden), The Association of Illustrators Gallery (London) and The Summerfields Show in Oxford (in aid of Art for Youth).  A Taste of Cheshire’ was a successful solo show to showcase some of our fabulous local food producers, farmers and artisans.  They provide Allie with a wealth of subject material as they work to get the best out of their environments, whilst treasuring and nurturing the countryside.

Jacky Al-Samarraie – Featured Artist – July’14

jacky Al-Smarraie

Jacky created The Art Rooms in 2007 and came into Art & Design in a commercial way, later in life.

Although having been creative from an early age, she didn’t pursue a career in Art until more recently, instead following a career working with children as a nanny and then moving into Social Services in London, and Bradford where she currently lives.

Whilst her children were growing up she started to develop her creative skills through a variety of part time courses, moving gradually into vocational studies. After studying an  Interior Decoration course, followed by an HNC Graphic Design and gaining distinctions in both, she graduated with a first class honours degree in Graphic Media Communication in 2003.

Graphic Design suited her style of work as well as her appreciation of printmaking and letterpress. Jacky has since created a small range of letterpress cards which are printed onto cotton and has designed various styles of floral images and a growing range of contemporary Landscapes.

Her secret is to combine uncomplicated images with blocks of colour, a style she developed during her degree. The Landscapes have become incredibly popular over the past 2 years which makes her extremely proud to have created them, and she is looking  forward to developing the range and to some new adventures travelling around the beautiful British countryside sourcing new images.
